Tonal balance and precise articulation are achieved by combining different weights and cymbal making techniques. The bottom hi hat is much heavier than the top, and both cymbals are hammered and semi-lathed. A heavier bottom cymbal gives you plenty of substance and a full bodied sound, whilst the top cymbal gives you an articulate, precise playing surface.
