Warmth, presence and precise articulation. In creating the Maximus, Jeff Hamilton combined his years of experience with the up-to-the-minute ingenuity of Mapex's famed Black Panther Design Lab. He wanted a jazz-voiced snare drum with a full, thick sound, so mahogany was the obvious choice of wood. However, in order to maintain that warm sound across a variety of volumes and stick techniques, Mapex got scientific.

The top and bottom bearing edges are cut at 45 and 35 degrees respectively - cleverly designed using Mapex's SONIClear technology to maximise head contact, resulting in a deeper, fatter tone and incredibly consistent tuning. This, combined with a specially engineered, 2.7mm deep and 5.5" wide snare bed, produces unparalleled response, even when played extremely lightly or with brushes. And with exclusive, in-line locking lugs, you can be sure your tuning will stay solid, gig after gig.

The durable helical groove design and cam operated lever mechanism provide consistently smooth operation, giving you the flexibility of three different settings with a smooth, reliable action.

Sonic Saver Hoops

Save your sound. The Maximus features Mapex's ingenious Sonic Saver hoops. Originally created for Mapex's legendary Black Panther snare drums, Sonic Savers feature a unique shaping process which creates a larger surface area on the top of the hoop, bridging the gap between the triple-flanged and die-cast methods. This makes them ideal for raucous rim shots, while also being kinder to your sticks - and your hands!
